Ripley is another Derbyshire town whose past is steeped in industry. It was mentioned in the Domesday Book as Ripelie, and is situated about 9 miles outside the city of Derby. Close by the market place, and the pub, stands the Church of All Saints. There is a railway museum close to the town, the Midland Railway Centre, which has working steam trains and various displays that include model railways.
Situated on the market place the pub attracts a wide range of custom from market traders and shopkeepers to shoppers, businessmen and students. The selection of cask ales offers a range of permanent favourites such as Sharps Doom Bar from Cornwall, the award-winning Harvest Pale from Nottingham's own Castle Rock Brewery and a selection of three ales from quirky and local microbrewery Blue Monkey. The new wine list will offer a mix of great value house wines as well as more premium and better quality wines as it is introduced late-summer 2014.
A new weekly quiz night is in the pipeline and the pub offers free unlimited broadband WiFi.
Traditional food is served very day including a grill section, a range of burgers and roast dinner on a Sunday.
