Not much information is available as to when Ripley was founded, but it existed at the time of the Domesday Book, when it was held by a man called Levenot. In the Middle Ages, Ripley was just a few stone cottages and farms around the village green with a few dwellings further afield. Famous for it's market, Ripley's market fair pre-dates the Goose Fair at Nottingham and the market day was altered to Saturdays with an extra market added on Fridays.
Situated only a short walk from the market place in Ripley, The Midland, is one of the better pubs of the town, even more so as it was recently refurbished to a high standard. The pub carries the full Sky Sports package and with it's projector screen it is one of the popular destinations when there's a big match on the telly.
The pub is popular with locals as well as teams travelling in from around the county to play favourite pub games such as dominoes, pool and poker. They offer free unlimited WiFi and have regular entertainment at the weekends such as Karaoke and a mid-week quiz night.
